ESTA developed a tailor-made extraction solution together with a well-known manufacturer of feeding robots for dairy farms. The aim was to extract the dust generated at the filling station of the autonomous feeding robot on a dairy farm in the Allgäu.
Daily routine re-thought
What many people don't know is that feeding is the biggest cost factor in milk production. The quality, frequency of feed provision and optimisation of mixed rations for each group of cows are crucial. Automated feeding enables farmers to feed their cows optimally. This in turn is the basis for a profitable and healthy dairy farm.
Extraction solution for the filling station
In the feed kitchen, the robot fetches the right feed mixture in the right dosage thanks to sophisticated sensor technology. Different silos as well as feed storage, mineral and liquid containers are available for this purpose, which are controlled by dosing rollers. During the fully automated filling processes, dust is generated that contaminates the sensitive sensors of the feeding robot and the environment as a whole. Philipp Reisser, plant engineering expert at ESTA, took on the case and worked meticulously on a tailor-made solution. He brought the DUSTOMAT DRY dust extractor into the running in combination with an extraction hood- with success. "The before and after effect was impressive. Thanks to the large-scale, selective dust collection during the filling process, no dust could settle on the robot or on the floor in the first place," says Reisser.
DUSTOMAT DRY saves heating costs in winter
In addition to this new field of application in agriculture, the DUSTOMAT DRY is primarily used in the processing of metal and plastic for the dust generated there. The modular housing concept enables the extraction system to be configured precisely. Depending on the application, the filter package can be equipped with separation efficiencies of up to 99.995%. The devices are suitable as single and multi-station extraction units for the medium performance range. In this practical example, Philipp Reisser designed the DUSTOMAT DRY with an air volume flow of 6,400 cubic metres of air per hour. Another plus point is that the extraction systems can be operated in 100 % air recirculation mode, which saves heating costs in winter, in contrast to exhaust air mode (with fresh air supply from outside).
All the details about the new DUSTOMAT DRY are also summarised in the new product video.
Dream team: dust extractor + extraction hood
The dust extractor was connected via a pipe system to the extraction hood designed by ESTA in the feed kitchen. The hood, made of galvanised sheet metal, is installed on the hopper of the conveyor system and ensures that the dusts generated when filling the feeding robot are collected effectively over a wide area. Philipp Reisser sums up with satisfaction: "The tests were all successful, so we can now offer our customer an adequate and efficient extraction solution for our customer’s robot-based feed handling."
