Clean air for the medical technicians of tomorrow

Dexterity and a high degree of precision are required in the training workshop at the Ferdinand von Steinbeis School in Tuttlingen on the south-eastern edge of the Black Forest: Here, the prospective surgical mechanics learn how medical, surgical and cosmetic instruments are manufactured. The end products, including scalpels, forceps, tweezers and scissors, are frequently used by doctors - during operations, examinations and in general patient care.

Wet separator for flying sparks

There are eight manual workstations in the grinding room at the training workshop. This is where the students work on workpieces made of stainless steel and titanium. The aging extraction system urgently needed to be replaced. The requirements were that the new system had to be modern, energy-efficient and suitable for multi-station extraction and, on top of that, fit into the planned new building for the training workshop in the future. The vocational school found what it was looking for at LKU Kessler, a leading dealer in the field of process air technology and industrial ventilation in the region. Managing director Alexander Kessler advised the vocational; school to use a wet separation process. This is because the resulting flying sparks can create an explosive atmosphere when mixed with air and pose a risk of a filter fire. With the DUSTOMAT HYDRO wet separator in ATEX version from ESTA, the vocational school now accomplishes two goals with on effort. The energy-efficient separator features patented water pre-separation technology, which minimizes the risk of an explosion.
