ESTA Extraction

ebm-papst relies on ESTA wet separators

Fan manufacturer ebm-papst opted for a wet separator from the DUSTOMAT HYDRO series to equip its new grinding room.

When moving into the new production hall at the end of 2022, Bernd Kretzschmar, Head of Toolmaking at ebm-papst, was concerned with the issue of occupational health and safety for the roughly 30 square metre grinding room with nine workstations. “First of all, we considered an extraction system from our inventory for dust extraction at the grinding workstations. However, after carrying out a risk and hazard assessment, we quickly realised that dry extraction was out of the question,” he recalls. This is because during the surface treatment of aluminium by grinding, brushing and polishing, combustible dusts are produced which, when mixed with air, can form an explosive atmosphere. If an effective ignition source is present at the same time, an explosion occurs. “This must be ruled out by all means.

That's why we started looking for a suitable wet separation system that meets the legal requirements, i. e. DGUV regulation 109-001," the tool manager continues. During his research, Kretzschmar came across the new DUSTOMAT HYDRO wet separator series from ESTA.

The wet separators of the DUSTOMAT HYDRO series feature innovative water separation technology: Already in the first filter stage, sparks and combustible dusts are rendered almost completely harmless with a separation efficiency of 98.7 %. Even the smallest particle fractions of ≥ 15 µm are safely bound in the water vortex chamber.

The DUSTOMAT HYDRO wet separators also have a flexible multi-stage filter system. This means that the filter media can be selected according to requirements. Depending on the chosen filter combination, a degree of separation of up to 99.995% can be achieved.
