Wet separator ensures clean air in the medical technology training workshop
Precision is a must in the training workshop at the Ferdinand-von-Steinbeis School in Tuttlingen. Here, prospective surgical mechanics learn how medical, surgical and cosmetic instruments are made—such as scalpels, forceps, tweezers, and scissors, which are later used in hospitals and surgeries. In the training workshop's grinding room, students work on stainless steel and titanium workpieces at eight manual workstations. The old extraction system was becoming outdated and needed to be replaced.
The search was on for a modern, energy-efficient solution for multi-station extraction that could also be integrated into the planned new building. With the new DUSTOMAT HYDRO wet separator in ATEX design from ESTA, the school meets all requirements – and ensures clean air in the training areas once again.
The requirements
- Extraction of stainless steel and titanium dust
- Safe capture of flying sparks
- Flexible multi-station extraction
- ATEX conformity
- Compact design
- Low operating costs
Die Lösung
DUSTOMAT HYDRO wet separator in ATEX design

DUSTOMAT HYDRO
The modular wet separator DUSTOMAT HYDRO 3.500 ATEX is designed for eight extraction points in the grinding room and has a configurable filter package.

Multi-stage filtration
The multi-stage filter system features a patented water separation technology, which, in combination with the downstream dry filter package, achieves a separation efficiency of up to 99.995%.

Pipe system
The spiral duct piping system is equipped with manual shut-off valves so that the extraction capacity can always be switched on exactly where it is needed.

Direct extraction
The grinding dust produced is collected via the suction nozzles on the grinding machines and fed to the wet separation system.
